Challenger Space Center of Arizona

The Challenger Learning Centers were started in 1986 by the families of the Space Shuttle Challenger 51-L crew to perpetuate their legacy through the education and motivation of America's young. The Challenger Learning Center of Arizona is the 41st Challenger site worldwide. Its mission is to instill and perpetuate the need to expand understanding of space exploration. Its state-of-the-art learning facility creates unique educational opportunities for students, educators, business people, and community members from Arizona and the southwest. The science museum's mission in part is to disseminate information regarding the development of the Interantional Space Station; train teachers in applying space education to science and math. The museum is a recipient of the International Space Station, Star Station One. Star Station One is sponsored by NASA. It is a program of demonstrations and workshops which encourages a hands on learning approach.
